Throughout the Development Control site you will see links to the Planning Portal. The Planning Portal provides comprehensive advice and guidance on Planning issues, in addition to a wide range of services. To learn more visit the Planning Portal.

The purpose of the planning system is to regulate the development and use of land in the public interest. This is achieved by requiring proposed development to have planning permission before any work commences. However there are minor alterations and additions you can make without the need for planning permission. If you want to comment on a planning application you will find the Your Chance to Comment leaflet useful. It answers ten questions commonly asked and explains how to make your view known, the sorts of concerns which the Council can and cannot take into account, and how decisions on planning applications are made.

After several years of being subjected to study after study the future of Milton Keynes is at last becoming clearer. Following the publication of the Milton Keynes and South Midlands Study towards the end of 2002, the Government has published a more detailed study looking at the spatial development of Milton Keynes up to 2016.
