Milton Keynes Inclusion

Inclusion - The Lord GreyYou may have concerns about your child, or you may be a young person with worries about your future or your school. Milton Keynes Council's Inclusion service brings together a wide range of services for children with disabilities or special educational needs, and those struggling in school. These pages describe the Inclusion services, and show you how to get in touch. What does Inclusion mean?

Learning or Behavioural Difficulties

If you feel your child is experiencing learning or behavioural difficulties, then the first point of contact will usually be your child's teacher or Early Years provider - they will have a closer understanding of your child's development, and offer the best way forward.
The school can also access the advice of its special needs co ordinator, and point the way to other helpful people. In Milton Keynes they can call on:

Special Educational Needs in Early Years

If you feel your child is having difficulties with their development the first point of contact will usually be your Health Visitor. If your child is in an early years setting, such as a nursery or preschool, its special needs co-ordinator can point the way to other helpful people. In Milton Keynes they can call on the Early Years Inclusion team.

Long-term Disability

If your child has a long-term physical or mental disability and requires help in the home, you may require support from the Children with Disabilities team. They coordinate the services required by children and young adults to promote their inclusion at home and the wider community. Also, Milton Keynes Council has:
  • a respite facility at Furze House that offers short residential placements
  • a long-term home for children who are looked-after by the local authority, Westminster Drive.

Lifelong Special Educational Needs

Inclusion - Walton High - ClassroomIf your child has severe, lifelong special educational needs, there is a legal obligation for the Council to maintain a Statement that summaries their needs and the resources used to meet them. Inclusion's Special Educational Needs Casework Team carries out an assessment, determines the additional support and monitors how well your child is doing. This team has close links to the Milton Keynes special schools.
