Further Information

Milton Keynes Hindu Association has been in existence for over 20 years. It is our estimate that there are about 1000 Hindu households in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.. The most recent data from the Milton Keynes Council (MKC) suggests that about 1.3 % of the population are Hindus.

The Hindu Community is one of the most wide spread in Milton Keynes. There is currently NO Hindu Community Centre in Milton Keynes. In fact Milton Keynes now remains the only major city/new town with such a sizeable Hindu community, yet still to have such a community centre.

We have been conducting our services to the Hindu community from various locations that include, Christ the Cornerstone Church, Radcliffe School, Centrecom, Peartree Outreach Centre, Stantonbury School, The Old Bath House and SBE Meeting Place.

Aspirations of the Hindu Community:

  • Provision of a central focal point for the Community in the MK area

  • A resource to support the wider social, educational, cultural and spiritual activities

  • A forum to foster values and good citizenship for the youth of today who will become the future of the nation tomorrow

  • To establish a centre of excellence that promotes the best in community relations

  • Supporting our elders who wish to live independently

Activities at the Hindu Community Centre:

We are mindful that in order to develop a thriving Community Centre takes time and commitment. Nevertheless, we believe that typical of most community centres we should like to consider as activities that would benefit the Hindu Community and also the wider community.

Celebrating Hindu festivals is of course one key feature of the services to be provided. In addition to this there will be the day-to-day real work of the Community Centre. This will include where we can offer, manage and resource:

a. After school classes (and weekend) for the National Curriculum subjects
b. Luncheon Club for the Hindu Elders (presently taking place at the Christ the Cornerstone Church)
c. Mums and toddlers groups
d. Health and healthy living workshops
e. Adult education provision
f. Cultural studies/centre
g. Back to work advice and support
h. The New Deal provision
i. NHS workshops and health clinics
j. Music and dance
k. Sure Start
l. Supporting activities for our youth and elders
m. Citizens and Police Action group

And other similar activities that would enhance and add value to the services on offer.
